i've been mucking around with the idea of modifying half-celestials slightly depending on their celestial parent.

say the celestial-parent served a deity of water, the child may or may not have the ability to breath underwater and if the parent was a celestial serving a deity of air, the child would have the ability of flight etc. would that unbalance the game?

Half-celestials are already pretty powerful, IMO, so if you're going to be adding some extra benefits, I'd suggest taking away some of the existing ones. You could remove (or weaken) some of the elemental immunities, for example. Also, posting this in "House Rules" might get you more responses.

lol. that's exactly what i was thinking.

that was exactly what i was thinking reducing some of the powers or replacing some of the listed spells with variants.
Resistance to acid 10, cold 10, and electricity 10 would be halved or something.

bless with comprehend languages
protection from evil with something else etc.

Er, sorry -- to answer your question, I think it's not unbalancing, so long as you make "packages" which differentiate the types of Half-Celestials.

E.g.:
- Air Celestial: as written.
- Water Celestial: lacks wings, but gains Swim speed equal to land speed, and gains Water Breathing (Ex).

bingo.

that's what i was looking for. also, considering that the kids are not going to be the same as their parents, a bit of diversity in the spell-like abilities would be good too. (i hate having a cookie cut-out character.) but, on the plus side, the spell-like abilities would have to be of the same power-level. like you couldn't exchange a protection from evil with flame-strike. ouch...
