Amaril and Heindall the barbarian easily killed the demon and came back to town. The miasma of evil clinging to them made it hard to stay near them. The contrast with the nice young paladin of St. Cuthbert who rode into town this morning made them seem even worse. He felt it too but said it was not honorable to kill them until he saw them do something evil. They decided to try Scruud and most patrons wisely left the room when the bottle was brought out. They spilled it and passed out. We dragged them out before they were killed by the fumes( the tavern will be closed at least a week while the spill is neutralized). It would have been so easy to leave them or to kill them while they were helpless but not honorable. We saw signs of a battle outside town and rode out to investigate. An army of humans and dwarves fought an army of orcs and goblins. There were two demon in the sky, watching. Suddenly they threw lightning and killed almost everyone on both sides. Amaril and Heindall fought the demons. The paladin speared one demon on his lance and I got in a few shots at the other. The ground was too wet with blood for good footing. We tried to find and help the survivors. One was attacked by one of Amaril's nightmares just as the paladin finished healing him. The paladin wounded the nightmare and drove it off but the soldier was dying again. A fireball flew from the sky, from Amaril's direction. The paladin decided to take the soldier to a cleric who could resurrect him. Right after that Amaril dissapeared. Later only Amaril came back to town. Even though he was the only one who wanted to loot the bodies on the battlefield, he has a bit more gold than he should. A special caravan, made up mostly of elves, has arrived in town. It includes many nobles and high ranking wizards. They are going to speak to the Knigh about how to deal with the cursed jewels and the monsters. I will join them and sever all ties with Amaril. Elves respect women. They will listen to my story.
