When I saw this product in the store, I grabbed it right away - I've always thought that "oriental" games were woefully underrepresented. For me, happiness is another D&D (or D&D-adaptable) oriental product. Then I read the credits - and nearly choked. Hey, I know a lot of these guys... and many of them are good (my personal favorite, the FR stalwart Steven Schend, is in there). And indeed, this product is quite good as well. There is a range of monsters here, along with a wide range of CRs. Interestingly enough, there is also a range of "oriental" settings (more specifically, "asian" settings). Not only are there the standard Japanese- and Chinese-inspired creatures here, but also Indian and Mongolian to name a few. This is a refreshing touch, and are still easily adaptable to a campaign (such as Rokugan or Kara-Tur) while providing a fresh type of creature to challenge the PCs. I don't have much to quibble about except for the Monkey God entry - while it's nice to see a 3e update for the Monkey God (since I have the old AD&D module "Mad Monkey vs. the Dragon Claw"), a more detailed read of that entry made me ask "what's the point?". The god (that's what it really is) does, for example 1d1000 damage, and the CR says something along the lines of "don't even try" (really). I'm not really sure how useful that is. Other than that, though, everything else was quite good (for me and my campaign, anyways). This book, along with OA and Monsters of Rokugan will go a long way to providing the type of support I require for my (large-scale) campaign.
