Jade Regent Adventure Path

3 out of 5 rating for Jade Regent Adventure Path

This one is pretty solid. I would give it a 4 if Skulls and Shackles was not so awesome in comparison... I think they took what worked from this and transplanted it to Skulls and Shackles, leaving the bad behind (i.e. some dungeons in Jade Regent are such grinds... hours and hours for average fun at best).Plus along the way the AP seems to forget about the NPCs you're escorting... only to bring them back up later. The relationship score system is annoying to keep track of, and we just gave up on it (same goes for caravan stats and caravan fights... lame)

I have fond memories of a caravan crossing the North Pole to reach the far East!
Besides the Marco Polo experience, I enjoyed the relationships with the caravan members.
And the art is really good.
All in all, this AP was not groundbreaking, but was a pleasant experience.

The early part of the story (crossing the crown of the world) was interesting and I felt it deserved to stand alone. The later part of the story in Tian-Xia felt rushed and sparse. I wonder if a "Chinese Buffet" is an apt comparison? That is, you get a taste of lots of foods, yet never really experience an authentic Chinese meal. I recognize the effort and desire to use the crossing of the crown of the world as a way to introduce western characters to eastern culture. But it left too little time for Tian Xia.
