In reverse order, there is an RPG fanbase here but that's in Manila. There are also a couple of stores that sell 5E there as well as a few other games. I only know that from online communities because I live in Mindanao in the south. And I much prefer terrorism 150 kms away than living in the middle of Manila which is the inspiration for Baator and the Abyss or one of those gate cities in the Outlands as featured in Planescape. My new group consists of some of my wife's family and the time they've been together can still be measured in hours. OK, in days. Let's see if I can keep this going. The biggest cultural difference is that almost everyone here sleeps 12-14 hours a day so it's probably fair to say that motivation/drive is an issue. I've started with 4E even though it is more complicated than 5E because 1. the kinesthetic nature of grid- and mini-based combat is vital for keeping everyone's attention, 2. it is more forgiving, especially at low levels, 3. the character builder prints nice sheets (maybe not the best organised but they present well), and 4. I simply prefer 4E although I am also enjoying running my 5E game with some guys in Oz over Skype. I have roughly 400 kgs of RPG material going back to 1981 so it's fair to say I'm not worried about product. I was also an early adopter of PDFs and, frankly, almost verything I have in hard copy I now have in PDF as well. Anyway, if I get a decent 3-4 hour session out of them instead of just an intro to characters, I will make sure to write it up here. :)
