Jane's like information source

Given that a subscription to Jane's encyclopedia's of death and destruction runs a little over $2000 a year, I was wondering if anyone out there knew of a cheaper solution that provides basic information about modern military arms, vehicles, etc that could be used in crafting new/updated material for RPGs that feature those types of things.

So, does something like this exist anywhere?

I got these with a Google search. They are decent references About Military Weapons About US Military Guns .

Many gun manufacturers have web sites and free (or low cost) catalogs. I haven't looked but I am sure some of the companies like General Dynamics, Boeing, etc have info on their vehicles.

Or try your local library for the Janes books

1) Consider finding gaming resources by people who've already done the research. Ultramodern Firearms D20 is one of the best out there.

2) Yes, your library probably does have some Janes in it. If not your public one, try a local university. State U's usually have a slightly broader selection in their stacks, esp. if they have a contract to do military research, like University of Texas.

3) Look for the Diagram Group's Weapon Encyclopedia. Its not as thorough as Janes, but its only about $45, and what it has is accurate.

4) Go to Barnes & Nobles, Borders, or the equivalent- you'll find half a dozen magazines on modern weaponry. God Bless the US Constitution & the 1st & 2nd Ammendments!
