April 15th On the day following the arrival of the second letter, Yevas leave his house to look for a token item. At first he has no idea what form this will take but after looking round the town all morning he has a tenuous of ideas what he looking for. Sitting down for a bite to eat and an ale, he analyses his selection. The letter states this should reflect himself. Well physically, he looks fairly average. This readily combines with a major personality trait - he likes to blend in and appear as one of the crowd, wherever he is. So he wants something that will help him disguise himself. His other personality trait is that he has a curiosity bump the size of a goose egg, so he wants something that will help him ferret things out. It also said its should reflect his fitness for service. That's no problem has the crown will be best served by his information gathering skills. Finally the home part. Yevas has a second drink while he ponders this. On the face of it there is nothing to distinguish his home from that of all the other senior civil servants. By the time he has finish his ale he has decided that a bit of sideways thinking is required. After a few more minutes though, he concludes that home can be considered to be family. So what his the distinguishing feature of his family. It doesn't take any thought to conclude that this is the acquisition of information. However, information gathering is a activity not an action, so what actions are needed to gather information? Yevas finally concludes that you either need to question people, in which case some kind of disguise may be necessary, or eavesdrop, in which case stealth is an advantage. Its taken a while but he has finally distilled the criteria in the letter to disguise and stealth. During the morning he seen a hat which would do the first and a funny stone that will do the second, what he hasn't found is something that will do both. He has also found a ring which, while helping him disguise himself, will also help him to sneak around and hide. He has previously used this later skill to great effect and always enjoys sneaking and hiding. Sneaking is also useful in gathering information. So this ring is a definite possibility but he may be able to do better. Finishing his lunch and his thoughts, Yevas knows of one more place he hadn't tried. Once there he finds that they not only have a Ring of Chameleon Power, they also have a Torc, which combines the effects of the hat and the stone. Now Yevas really needs to make a decision. His earlier thoughts indicated that the Torc would be a better fit. However, he now realises just how much he enjoys sneaking about and, after dithering for quite some time, selects the Ring of Chameleon Power
