Robin Ranger 2 Halfling. JD Wizard 2 Gnome. Geff warlock 3 Tabaxi. Jorric Wizard 1 halfling.</p><p></p><p>AL, “Is Sam in there, new person?”</p><p></p><p>Jorric, “I am Jorric Wizard.”</p><p></p><p>AL, “Pinball Wizard, code wizard, or…”</p><p></p><p>Jorric, “Just MYSTIC ARTS.”</p><p></p><p>AL, “Gooshie, I don’t have what the bald dude said about this mission. Oh. You were hired as family of guards by a Shezar Han who left from Memnon in the Calim desert. He and you were lost to time.”</p><p></p><p>JD, “Can you give.” LEAP SOUND. “Us more information.” The group is hot, but comfortable. They are outside the great city of Memnon, their new boss is speaking and eating cereal.</p><p></p><p>Shezar Han, “As I was saying. It will be 100 GP each up front to get my four merchant wagons to Calimport and another when we get there. Thukir is the boss of the guards and you take your orders from him.”</p><p></p><p>JD, “Why are you eating cereal in this heat.” Han shows the group a cereal bowl with cute dogs around the rim.</p><p></p><p>Shezar Han, “This is my lucky bowl. A few weeks ago, on the trip to here, I found it. A day later my caravan was attack by jackalweres, I lost one wagon but survived. A day later I found two destroyed wagons and was able to make up my lost. Yesterday Thukir gave me a good deal for his work, and today you were the first to arrive.” Some of the group recall the Jackalweres were very active this season. So, adding more guards made sense.</p><p></p><p>Thukir, “I really don’t trust you. I have to offer you roaming positions but I think you should stay in your wagon and provide fire support with spells and bows. Glad you agree.” They moved out.</p><p></p><p>Around noon dust tarps are thrown back as about ten bandits and the great Bluebeard pop out the sand.</p><p></p><p>Bluebeard, “Yes is I well know pirate of the sandy sea. Here to enforce an informal toll. One wagon. Half your coin. And half your water skins. And your best skin of wine.”</p><p></p><p>Felonious in an Irish Accent, “My cash no problem. His wagon is a slight problem. My whiskey over my dead body.”</p><p></p><p>Bluebeard, “You have whiskey. Real Irish WHISKEY. FOCUS FIRE ON THE MOUTHY ONE.”</p><p></p><p>Felonious, “DRAM IT.” Yama and Geff take the left flank, Jorric and Felonious the right flank and the rest just scatter their covering fight. The fight takes awhile but Bluebeard is no more. A few hours later they make camp. The second day the wonderful flying city of Miziltep flies over head.</p><p></p><p>On the third day a Bulette attacks the wagon number three killing the camels but being driven off. They reshuffle the load and decide not to track it.</p><p></p><p>On the morning of the fourth day the air is calm. Han still eating from his lucky bowl. Geff throat starts tightening and his fur goes up. Suddenly, a sandstorm starts blinding everyone. (Note I removed the blinded condition if the people were in melee range.) The guard leader is heard, “This is blessing. Get the bowl. Kill the boss. And run away.” Breakfast is interrupted by a good fight. With sandstorm blocking their sight, the heroes start attacking the closest Jackalweres. They take down two and hear Thukir, “Just kill the boss and take the bowl. We can out run them.”</p><p></p><p>Yama and Robin fall back to the boss but two jackalweres dog pile Han. “He is dead, I got the bowl. Flee my friends.” Yama and Robin cut down that one. Robin ducks an attack and parries well. While a second rolls between them and grabs the bowl.</p><p></p><p>Yama, “Some help please. Tag him but he is getting a way.” JD tossing a magic missile taking the second to last one down. “CHARGE! AND DIE. Well, we recovered the bowl, now what do we do?” LEAP SOUND. (Long rest during the leap.)</p><p></p><p>AL, “Why does Yama have a bowl on his head. Okay your next mission, you are a posse. In the artic Dalelands. And.” LEAP SOUND.</p><p></p><p>Sheriff Markham, “Now that you are deputies and search party. Old Captain D did not return last night. Hop on your sleds, get your dogs, and find him.” The search party move out and soon comes across a pack of wolves eating a leg.</p><p></p><p>Robin, “Excuse me. What are you doing?”</p><p></p><p>Wolf, “What does it look like. Eating a foot. It is still mostly warm.”</p><p></p><p>Robin, “Do you mind if we go around?”</p><p></p><p>Wolf, “Go ahead. You sure you don’t want a nibble.”</p><p></p><p>Robin, “No we are good.” They move on and about an hour later Yama gets the party to turn around. They get back to mostly eaten corpse of Captain D. Only his left shoulder and head is intact. His fore head has Auril’s snowflake tattoo. This is mark made by the followers of Auril on their sacrifices. The sheriff is not happy and sends them to Caer-Dineval the next morning.</p><p></p><p>Entering the bar the bartender is not happy to see them when they mention the cult. They think of shaking him down but decide to be nice and pay for drinks during the evening. They think the cult is hiding in the keep.</p><p></p><p>On the way to keep they are attack by six imps and it a very hard fight with Robin and Jorric nearly dying. But they push on. After midnight Felonious popups the lock and the group sneaks in.</p><p></p><p>Avoiding the trap on the first floor, they move up the stairs.</p><p></p><p>Cult Fanatic 1, “Freeze thief.”</p><p></p><p>Cult Fanatic 2, “I said, Freeze thief.”</p><p></p><p>Cult Fanatic 3, “Dammit, Freeze thief. naughty word there is five more.”</p><p></p><p>Yama charges up the stairs and flees down the stairs, “I HATE CLERICS. I really do.”</p><p></p><p>JD, “Kill the guy in the green and gold he the one with hold person.” That cleric goes down. “Hey Felonious you can move now.” Felonious doesn’t move.</p><p></p><p>JD, “Kill the guy in the red and gold he the one with hold person.” That cleric goes down. “Hey Felonious you can move now.” Felonious doesn’t move.</p><p></p><p>Felonious, “Never mind I saved kill the last one. He is retreating up the stairs for help.”</p><p></p><p>Yama, “I got him. He won’t go for help.”</p><p></p><p>Ice Knife Nymetra, “But help has already arrived. I would like to rage.” With the fight out in room, the group spreads out and kill the cult leader. They spend few hours looting and take the bodies to the Sherriff.</p><p></p><p>LEAP SOUND.</p><p></p><p>DM Notes. For any DM running Calim Crossing, beware the encounters on page 155 range all tiers. If you have a group which likes murderhobo, you may want to put the higher CR encounters at a great distance. The though of the DM will not put something in front of us we can’t handle, will lead to trouble.</p><p></p><p>The Cost of Warmth needs work. It supposed to be a detective story but only has a bare bone plot. Due to time, I shorten and move things around.</p><p></p><p>End of Session 636.</p></blockquote><p></p>
