Jerry Orbach: 1935-2004 (how I love Law and Order!)

Well, I learned this morning that Jerry Orbach has passed away of prostate cancer. For those of you that don't know who he is - he played Det. Lennie Briscoe on Law and Order for 11 years, and I adored him (he left the show last season).

He was recently diagnosed with prostate cancer, and passed away today.

Just sharing my little piece of sorrow - I know there are other Law and Order fanatics out there on the boards, so let us mourn together.

He was great, he made that show happen. It is a great lose as he was a great actor.

He was also Lumiere (the Candlstick) in Disney's Beauty and the Beast

I hadn't heard that he died. His Briscoe was classic TV. I'd also seen him in things like Murder, She Wrote- classy guy who did a great job on the screen.

He was a good character actor in a number of films in addition to TV roles. He did an excellent job as a union leader in Last Exit to Brooklyn. I've never understood the fanaticism for L&O but I like it and Orbach's character was certainly entertainling (though I did like the two actors who had his role in the two earlier seasons as well).

Sad. How can I watch it without thinking of poor Jerry?

I was watching the various news retrospectives on the year throughout the day, and it was amazing how the picture of Jerry, more than anyone other celebrity we lost this year (and there were a depressingly large number of them) had such a sense of presence in his photo. The man just exuded warmth and personality. He will be sorely missed.
