I think that would be a misreading. I don't think the times have changed per se. There are still plenty of people offended by this sort of thing. What's changed is that WotC is still mostly sticking to something like the comic book code, and most people now have some familiarity with the concept of an RPG and what it's actual risks and dangers are (or are not). So while you have still probably about the same level of discomfort that you had in say 1985 with including this sort of material, what you don't have is a panic, because a small group of people can't present themselves as experts and mislead the larger group. You have now as then a large number of people who treat the content on "demons" and "devils" as optional, supplemental, and not crucial to a fun game. And you've got plenty of adventures by Paizo and WotC - or TSR for that matter - that empower them to do just that. So those tables are off happily playing Curse of Strahd or Tomb of Annihilation and mostly downplaying demons and devils as key opponents. And the ones that find the whole thing with pretend magic and pretend supernatural powers just a bit too spiritually risky, well they were never going to be customers anyway. The absence of a panic shouldn't be taken as an indication that this isn't still a thing for a lot of people. And WotC is wise to title their products "Descent into Avernus" at least on the cover. I'll be curious to see how well the hell themed content does.
