jump skill and boots of striding and springing

The wearer of these boots moves at double her normal speed. In addition to this striding ability, these boots allow the wearer to make great leaps. She can jump with a +10 competence bonus to Jump checks, and the wearer’s jumping distance is not limited by her height.

The distances listed are for characters with speeds of 30 feet. <snip> If the character has a higher speed (because the character is a barbarian or an experienced monk, for instance), increase the distance jumped proportionally.

in our game, my half-orc fighter/barbarian got a pair of these boots. am i correct in thinking that with his base speed now 80', he multiplies his jump check distance by 2.5? with a new jump skill of 19, rolling a 1 on on a jump check means a max distance for a running horizontal jump is 15 feet. multiplied by 2.5, gives him a minimum distance of 37.5 feet! is this right??? seems that way to me (tho my DM thinks otherwise), but i'm not certain. comments?

You multiply your jumping distance in proportion, yes. 80/30 = 2.67 times. That's not the same as multiplying the Jump check itself, or multiplying things twice.

With a base Jump bonus of +19, a 1 on the roll means a minimum result of 20. Subtracting 10 gives a guaranteed distance with a running jump of (20-10) * 2.67, or 26 feet 8 inches. In situations where you can take 10, you can clear a distance of at least 50 feet 8 inches.

perhaps i phrased it wrong, Hong, (;) ... am i easily amused, or what!!!) but that's what i was trying to get at. with a running horizontal jump, you jump a minimum of 5ft, plus 1ft per point over 10 on the check (which is how i arrived at the minimum of 15ft). ... 50+ feet?? that's ... that's ... freakin cool!!!!!!! :D

Alright. I'm at work, and I'm bored, so I worked out the math for you...

With the Boots, you have a Jump skill of +19, and a movement of 80'. That gives you a skill roll range from +20 to +39, and the final Jump result gets multiplied by 8/3.

So, for your Barbarian, if he isn't wearing armor (and assuming I did my math right)...

Running Jump: 40' 0" to 90' 8"
Standing Jump: 21' 4" to 46' 8"
Running High: 12' 0" to 24' 8"
Standing High: 8' 8" to 15' 0"
Jump Backward: 6' 0" to 12' 4"

Pretty impressive, eh?

Oops, forgot the 5' minimum jumping distance. That gets multiplied by 2.67 too, for an additional 13'4" per jump. The end result is as Jack Haggerty posted.

I am sure you all know that the jumping distance counts against the total movement for the round. So, it's not additional movement, its total. I allow someone to jump to the end of their allowed movement, letting it carry over to the next round (They are in the air and have no dex bonus anymore). This lets people jump as far as they want, but makes them vulnerable too.
