The movie establishes that the mutant dinosaurs have only been alone on the island for 17 years.Sadly there is no discussion about the origins of the ancient Aztec-style temple. But it clearly wasn't built by InGen, so I guess the idea is just that some Aztec-like civilization once lived on the island, which the movie establishes is off the cost of French Guiana.</blockquote>
