Overall, I give it a thumbs-up. 3 out of 4 stars.
I was surprised to discover there were still plenty of decent scenes that hadn't already been shown in the endless trailers and the "making-of" specials on cable TV.
I left thinking "gee, if the special FX teams could do all that, then the next X-Men movie could show more than 2 seconds of Colossus."
One potential area of huge disappointment for some folks that I feel compelled to make clear: the tone of the movie is generally heavily exaggerated. We're talking a lot of intentional overacting. Chewing up the scenery. Hamming it up. Subtlety-deficient. You catch my drift?
It is all a big over-the-top spectacle without a brain in its head. If you were expecting depth and subtext, don't say you weren't warned.
Now go watch it and have fun.
