Just got Machines & Mutants

Biohazard

First Post
hey dudes. I just got Machines & Mutants, the nifty new hardcover "monster manual" for Gamma World d20. (Yes, it's called Machines & Mutants, NOT Mutants & Machines, as S&S had previously announced).

A few thoughts:
--Overall, a great book, but suffers from the same poor layout choices of the Player's Handbook: black text on grey pages (yech), inconsistent page design from chapter to chapter, and inconsistent art quality (some great pics, some dreadful, some even--shudder--computer generated).

--Content is outstanding. Lots of classic Gamma World beasties, plus lots of new stuff. Ditto the machines section. Lots of pseudo-scientific use of nanotech and biotech to compliment the new GW feel.

--Writing is superb. Very colorful descriptions, very vivid, even poetic imagery. This was also one of the Player's Handbook's strong points.

--I can't wait for Out of the Vault(s)? and the Game Master's Guide. Gamma World lives, baby!

BTW, for a thorough review of the new Machines & Mutants (I didn't write it, BTW), check out rpg.net:
