Just how geeky are you, anyway? I mean, this is ENWorld, so presumably everyone here is into D&D enough to post about it on a messageboard online, but other than that? At one end of the spectrum we have "I play D&D and watch the occasional anime or sci-fi themed TV show," and at the other we have "I report for jury duty in my Starfleet uniform." To get the ball rolling, obviously I play D&D. I don't watch much sci-fi, and have actually never liked Star Trek. I like Star Wars well enough, but I avoid the novels, conventions and Internet discussion groups. I most certainly did not camp out for tickets to any premieres of any movies in a Boba Fett or stormtrooper costume. I think my level of Star Wars fandom is within mainstream levels. I post a lot about D&D and RPGs here, on Nothingland and on rpg.net, but that's more a strategy for coping with ennui at work than because I'm such a die-hard gamer. I don't have a typical geeky appearance or social habits; I'm married with kids, have lots of mainstream social interaction, I'm only about 25 lbs. or so overweight tops, have a mainstream professional job and an MBA, don't have long hair or a beard, and don't even own more than one or two black t-shirts. On the other hand, eight or nine years ago, I wrote a novella length fanfic based on the characters of the Street Fighter series of arcade games. And this wasn't just a phase I went through when I was younger; I've actually seriously considered writing another one adding in characters from the King of Fighters and Fatal Fury series as well. My own little Capcom vs. SNK fanfic, if you will. In fact, I've even typed up some notes and three or four introductory chapters. It'll probably just peeter out anyway, but the point is, it's still a geeky hobby of mine. So, how geeky are you? And no, I did not make an author cameo as Chun Li's sex toy in that fanfic...
