I'm a geek. I am unable to have conversations that are not about ideas. If someone tells me what foods they like, I start discussing the ingredients, how they work chemically, where they are from, what cultures they are associated with. If someone starts talking about their office politics, I begin asking sociological questions to see how these incidents fit into more general principles of social interaction, etc. I am currently working on a PhD is religious history. The last time I successfully courted a woman, Mikhail Gorbachev was head of the USSR. I play role-playing and strategy games twice a week; they constitute my main social activity. I have most of Monty Python memorized and, for years, had a near-complete collection of Dr. Who episodes that were aired in two hour instalments; I carefully put the every 25 minutes episode breaks back in. Myers-Briggs says I'm an INTP. I read Ron Ewdards' GNS theory and associated literature just so I could argue against it. There are a bunch of geeky things I don't do. I got out of the software industry in 1995. I don't enjoy Star Trek (except, weirdly, for Voyager). I don't read fantasy or sci-fi (except for the two double-R authors). I only like two of the Star Trek films. Final proof I'm a complete geek: when I was 9, I read CS Lewis's The Last Battle (the last book in the Narnia chronicles) and was upset by the ending -- how could everyone in Narnia enjoy the same quality of life they did before if all the dead were ressurrected but had to occupy and exploit the resources of the same area?
