Absurdia, my TTRPG inspired by classic and contemporary absurdist works like Welcome to Night Vale, Alice in Wonderland, and Gravity Falls, just launched on Backerkit!
In Absurdia, you play as peculiar residents of a surreal suburb where the otherworldly is ordinary and the mundane, terrifying. You’ll contend with occult bureaucracy, a megalomaniacal PTA, sentient cars, malevolent garden flora, a non-Euclidean network of back alleys, and the occasional extradimensional cosmic horror in a town unmoored from space and time.
Absurdia’s game mechanics use the rules-light, narrative-forward Powered by the Apocalypse system. From GM & player tools to media influences to surreal sample threats, the book has everything you need to spin up your own collective fever dream at the table. Twelve unique playbooks inspired by the game's absurd touchstones offer a wide range of distinctive abilities and playstyles, while the collaborative design encourages everyone to help shape the story and imagine the town's absurdism.
The game is already largely complete, with the crowdfunding campaign intended primarily to fulfill print orders. While we’ve actually already funded (!) there are some delightfully absurd stretch goals ahead for expanded interior artwork as well as some ready to play one shot scenarios from a talented group of guest authors.
Subvert normalcy. Embrace chaos. Get really <CENSORED BY ORDER OF THE CITY COUNCIL> weird. Back Absurdia today
