We've been packing to move house at the end of this month, and I've been storing some of my books and things at my parent's storage room. Unfortunately, it was destroyed by fire this afternoon: http://www.lohud.com/article/20120615/NEWS/306150089/Roof-work-eyed-possible-cause-smoky-blaze-Uncle-Bob-s-Self-Storage-Southeast?odyssey=tab|topnews|text|Frontpage I've been playing D&D since 1983, and most of my boxed sets, books, and modules from the 80s & 90s, Dragon Magazines from 90-359, the whole run of Dungeon, as well as my campaign notes from those years of gaming were over there. Quite a bit of my d20 stuff was there, too, along with our Christmas ornaments, tree, and other memorabilia. It's hard to process, since I wasn't there and I heard about it after the fact. It's hard to believe that my collection that I've nurtured since before I was a teenager, moved cross-country and back, saved from basement flooding, and was looking forward to finally having space in the new house to put it all out to enjoy is gone. Nobody was hurt in the fire, and my family and home are fine. "Things" are replaceable, and we'll always have memories. I have renter's insurance, so we'll see if I can recover some money for this, at least. I've had much worse things happen in my life, and on the scale of what could have been wrong when my Mom called me this afternoon and said "something bad has happened," this is hardly near the top. But even with a balanced perspective, I just had to share a virtual moment of silence with all of you, who certainly appreciate the physical things I lost. Now, to really start hoping WotC decides to re-start doing pdfs of old books...
