This is what happens when I start posting and take time to look up/research stuff mid-post :) RC:.. you should.. EOM is awesome. As to the templates, I do not have any of those books..and my current 'next buy fund' is going to either Iron Heroes or Complete Arcane.. or the new Eberron book :) Nifft:.. Agreed, and with EoM, the flavor and appearance of the spells will all be pretty much as you described. But instead of actual constructs they would be the spells in question. Magic Missile cast by Justin would look like a miniature shadow hawk that dives *into* the target. Wall of Force would look like a billion shadow monkeys that race out and stand on each others shoulders, forming a wall that can hazily be seen through...etc. Fireball {which he wont learn.. but if he did..} would look like a shadow manikin carrying a box which races up to the designated point and 'pulls the pin'. This is the best part of EoM.. the mechanics are seperated from the fluff. Each of the above examples act exactly like thier core version, the only difference is the description. The Summon list works purely on CR and for most normal people who summon things like elementals, undead, or animals.. there are a plethora of choices to cull from. Me, being me, thought to go the less trodden path which ended up not having any choices in the CR range I am looking at.
