Unlike most kaiju, who are either created unintentionally or as weapons of war, Biollante was created with a non-martial intent, although the results were not what was expected. A powerful sorcerer/safe, driven to the brink of madness by the death of his daughter, imbued her favorite rosebush with the essence of Godzilla cells, in order to render them immortal. He then tapped into the Ethereal Plane, capturing the spirit of his daughter and binding it to the bush. Unfortunately, the infusion of sentience into the mutated rose was enough to transform it into a gargantuan monster. Four tentacles with scalloped jaws grow from the base. When she or her father are threatened, however, the rose blossom retracts to reveal an alligator-like set of massive jaws with sharp tusks and multiple rows of teeth.
