This weekend I watched this movie. (Took my mom to the movies for Mother's Day) I guess it is soon for spoilers as the rest of North America won't get it for three more Fridays. Still I wanted to open this up for now and later hopefully there can be spoilers then. In general, I'm not that much of a fan of Jackie Chan anymore due to some stuff beyond the scope of this forum, but regardless he is still a solid actor and he seems to be in good shape. Still I'd have liked to see him do more of his physical comedy. Surprisingly, he ends up making quite a cool comedic duo with Ralph Macchio. They really seemed to be having a lot of fun while performing. The first half of the movie is also very fun, and a small but enjoyable subversion of our expectations. All the while I kept thinking "wow is that Pacey? Yes he is!" Yes, Joshua Jackson is a solid member of the cast and for a while it looks a bit like his show. It is great and enjoyable, and a bit of a shame they don't advertise him much. And I haven't touched on Ben Wang. He is genuine, and very likable. He is quite capable as a martial artist and brings a lot of acrobatics and strength to the role. His character is also very different from previous main characters, not quite the bullied kid nor exactly a generic "loser" archetype. Li is not a weak kid facing a big bully, he is a capable artist facing a big challenge. This movie has a bit of everything and very solid. It isn't a masterpiece, but it is fun, exciting and kind of a good movie to watch with your mom (and thinking of it a dad too). I urge any of you not to miss it once it drops in theaters in two weeks. (Or if you live by the border and happen to be visiting us while on a shopping trip n_n)
