Keen-Eared Scout vs Hear the Unseen

First Post
Seems that Hear the Unseen (Complete Adventurer) and Keen-Eared Scout (PHB 2) have similar effects.

Hear the Unseen: With a DC 25 Listen Check you can pinpoint all foes within 30'. Making noise or no.

Keen-Eared Scout: When making a Listen check due to noise, if you beat the DC by 10 or more points, you "determine the precise, current location" of the noise.

Since Keen-Eared Scout does quite a bit more in its other abilities, and has no range limit (beyond the -1 on Listen checks every 10') it would seem better for this purpose overall. Any opinions on this? Thanks guys!

Well, neither will replace a targeting sense, but they are interesting.

The inherant differences are:

A) Hear the Unseen works in silence (see the making noise or no comment), while Keen-Eared Scout does not.

B) If they aren't making noise and are outside of 30' neither will help you.

C) Keen-Eared Scout allows for one individual thing to be noticed per check, while Hear the Unseen can find any number of people in 30'

D) Hear the Unseen has a flat DC, allowing you to hose any move silently checks made within 30', and getting near 20th level is an automatic success depending on stats and other bonuses assuming a maxed out skill.

E) Keen-Eared Scout is only limited by your own hearing range, making it more usefull over long distances, and likely outdoors.

Hope that helps :)
