Really there should be some sort of giant wall with a sort of Code of Hammurabai for DMs and a whole wall of commandments along those lines:

'Plausibility enhances verisimilitude.

Detail and causality enhance verisimilitude.

Tolerant delivery shall also enhance verisimilitude.

He who arbitrarily kills a character shall have his character arbitrarily killed.'

That kind of thing
