so you just kill the big nasty lich and with its dieing breath anounces its scorn for you and your party stating that it will be back and it will rape you all.

my question for you is, how do you find the phylactery?

is thier spells that you can think of that would help?

tricks of any sort?

Commune, Divination, and Locate Object all immediately come to mind. Locate object, though, requires that you know what the damn thing looks like, and that it is somewhat close by.

Best thing IMX is to wait till the lich is back and to locate him all the time... he'll be back pretty close to his phylactery.

Unfortunately, any lich worth his salt will use spells to protect the location of the phylactery. The best to keep killig him every time that he shows up. You will get XP on a creature that is getting less and less powerful as he loses a level every time that he is defeated. Have you mage keep a dimensional anchor in memory as well as some of the spell compendium's spell that anticipate teleportation.

Liches don't lose levels when they reform. It's a phylactery, not a Raise Dead.

Also, might I say, killing the lich is not always the best plan. Disjoin the bastard, then trap him in an anti-magic zone.

/jawdrop

Does a Lich destroyed within an Antimagic Zone return to his phylactery?
