I saw King Kong last week; I am so pleased with it! Finally someone who understands Kong and B-Pictures of yore. It was like watching an expensive B-movie, which was PERFECT for this film. It was a delight for me from beginning to end. I could totally tell the director, stars, etc. were fans of the original. I have hated the loss of old B-movies of old and love movies that hit the style so well. This one was one of them. I really loved how the "8th Wonder of the World" show in NYC utilised music from the original King Kong! There were quite a few respectful in-jokes about the original movie in this one - not like the campy approach taken in the 70's remake. The only negative was the length (and this is a minor quibble). If they had cut five or ten seconds out of most of the scenes, that might have made the film a little tighter. Even so, the movie was delightful and lived up to my highest hopes (I won't say it lived up to my expectations, because my expectation and my hopes were on two different levels; I expected them to make the film more realistic than the original and I am so glad they did not - this film hit my hopes and exceeded my expectations). For the second time this year I am glad I spent my money to actually see a film in the theatre (Batman Begins was the first); so many other films this year was a disappointment, one way or another. Now, if only someone could talk Peter Jackson into remaking The Creature from the Black Lagoon...
