The conflict itself seemed nonsensical to many guys on the ground, and I think the movie reflected that chaos, especially when you compare it to a movie like Saving Private Ryan, which while technically astounding, becomes one-note in its sentimentality for the rest of the movie.FMJ shows these guys being brainwashed into militaristic thinking, to the point they turn on one of their own, who when he tries to conform, utterly and completely breaks. And it’s all to prepare them for what? A war that didn’t make a lick of sense from the movie’s vantage point. They are neither better for their brutal training indoctrination, they’re not prepared to be soldiers, and ultimately, when they are in country, they’re killing just to survive. Anyways, that’s my two cents on reconciling the two halves of FMJ.</blockquote>
