The humorous creatures are actually quite usable. Same goes for the adamantine chef. You might want to substitute less humorous names, flavor, etc., but they can still make good adversaries.

For example, I changed the favor for the pie fiend from WotC's April Fools a few years ago, and it made for a challenging, fearsome adversary.

Check out the chia golem we just updated from an old issue of Dragon. I think it works well even in a non-humorous situation.
 

The art, writing and editing have really taken a step up in the last few issues. While I may not agree with all of the included material, it is free, and much of it is very useful. Thanks to Dave and everyone else that contributes (and I'm not saying this because it is possible I have an article coming out 2 issues from now, in case anyone correlates this with that).

I believe that's the wolf in sheep's clothing. Flumphs are, and I know it's hard to believe, even dumber than that.

But even they are no flail snail.
