Alien has better rules. At least for my needs. The key horror element of Alien as a setting is the eponymous Alien species. The stress rule is not, in and of itself, a horror mechanic. It's perfectly suited to a type of Drama that Traveller just cannot provide, that of the Vorkosiverse style push to the breaking point. Alien severely reduced my attachment to Traveller. (my avvie is a colorization of the MT shattered starburst... which is a map of the MegaTraveller era Rebellion's factions... still my avvie more out of laziness than anything else.) Last year, I ran MegaTraveller again. It was... suboptimal. Cleared a lot of nostalgia out of my head. I also ran two mini-campaigns of ALIEN in cinematic mode. I also reread MgT2 before deciding on MT. Nothing in it made it stand out. After my one post-playtest run of MgT 1e, It fell into "never again"... at least not unless heavily modded. And it's just not worth the effort, when Rogue Trader and ALIEN fill the same general niches as Traveller. What they don't hit, Coriolis: The Third Horizon should, tho' that I've not run.
