Kobold Quarterly

Hey everyone,

Ive been tempted lately by KQ. I was wondering if anyone could tell if its worth it?

I was thinking of doing the print+PDF sub, but seeing as I am in Canada, it comes to about $44 US with shipping. Is the print copy decent quality? I would love to have a print copy, but dont know about paying that much.

The PDF sub is tempting too at only $16 US, but as I said before, I do love the physical thing, so thats one con if I went that way. I dont have an ipad or any digital reader, so it'd be on a computer or iPhone.

Anyways, is KQ generally good overall? Whats the community concensus? (for the record I am a fan of both 3.5/Pathfinder and 4e)

Kobold Quarterly is well worth buying; though only you will know if it is worth the extra you would have to pay due to your location.

Full Disclosure: I've also written for it. However, before one writes for it, one has to be a customer so I was a satisfied customer before I was a contributor.

The magazine itself is physically worth having if you, like me, dislike reading PDFs. Its professionally printed and put together and you won't find yourself thinking of it as some basement print-run; if thats what you are worried about.

Content wise, it offers a nice selection of varied material for 3e, Pathfinder, 4e and even now Dragon-Age. It is, as has often been said, a worthy successor to Dragon.

Also, KQ is now one of the best ways to get recognition for writing gaming material. If you have an article or three you might like to write, Wolfgang is pretty easy to deal with and you can, with one good article, pay for your subscription. But you have to subscribe (or be a patron of Open Design) before Wolfgang will accept your ideas for consideration.

I also HIGHLY recommend Kobold Quarterly! The actual print magazine is very high quality - I don't think you will be disappointed.

Oh, I guess I should also disclose that I have written for the magazine as well as done a number of illustrations for it, although that has NOTHING to do with my recommendation.

Honestly, great magazine!

It is a great mag and reminds me more of White Dwarf from the days when it was not just a GW advert sheet.

I do not know what the print is like (far too expensive to go to NZ) but I really enjoy the mag, the fluff s of a good enough standard that most of the articles are useful no matter what the system.
