And I suppose I don't - therein lies the fundamental disconnect. But, as stated a few times already, the fix is trivial: give the kobolds more HPs. I've said this already, but I'll repeat it once more: The Slayer does not "hit on a miss." On a miss, the slayer triggers an ability that does damage to the target he was trying to hit. Rules wise, this is a hefty and important distinction. Is the ability too strong, I don't think so - and it certainly didn't raise any flags when we played - but that's a matter of opinion. Who said anything about reality or a martial power source (the martial power source was just a way for the 4e team to try to get people to think outside the "magic" box)? I said myth as in fantasy and legends and stories from the past. D&D is ultimately about myth and magic; too many people ignore the myth. A fighter who never misses is mythic - and that's as much (or more) a part of the D&D lexicon as magic. Again (and again, and again) HPs are an amorphous abstract concetpt. 3 HPs of damage may mean a direct hit, it may mean a graze, it may even mean a subtle erosion of the character's or creatures luck or karma. You don't like that, I get it - doesn't mean it's not a valid concept. This ability seems fine at first level for me, clearly not for you. I'm not even sure what to say to that, I'd link to the posts, but I'd be linking to my own posts in this very thread - so what's the point? So you haven't actually tried it then? And the original post stated exactly what the creature's own description states: individual kobolds are virtually no threat, they are a threat in great numbers only. Are we retreading the same ground over and over? I'm having a decent time with the discussion, so have no problem with that. But I certainly don't want to waste board space beating a dead horse.
