[QUOTE="GMforPowergamers, post: 8821133, member: 67338"] as a person who wants to be a writer, and who is friends with people who are I will tell you telling the exact same story twice with little to no change doesn't get you as far as you think. The real 'magic' of retelling and reimagining is in getting the people who have never read it, AND the people who already know it to enjoy it... and that is hard. If tomorrow I reimagine GoT there is no shock value in Ned dyeing (spoiler I guess for a 30 year old book and 15 year old show) nor for most of the events... the original book AND TV show got milage out of that death in a way a new one would not. SO you have to make something different, maybe you embrace that everyone (most) will know it is coming and just let it slide as a story beat... but if you change teh twist to him being sent to the wall and getting to find Aria and interact with the faceless man... THAT is a twist, is it a good one, who knows maybe, not what I would do though. The twist in the newest Spiderman movie on Uncle Ben dying and the "with great power" line I felt fell flat, but I understand it isn't a change, it is a new way of telling the story (one I don't like as much).
