You listen for the man to reply telepathically, but there is nothing... and then, you realize why. The man has a special ability that once existed among your people, The Ticin Bond. It is a supernatural power of Ancestral Sonority, which allowed ancient Ticin warriors to form deep telepathic bonds with an ally, usually the soldier's armiger ("arms bearer"). For this bond to be permanent, you'd have to go through an ancient ritual that would "anchor" you to Rhone. As a Warden, he would shield your soul, which would provide you with special insights and protections. What these would be is lost to time. Then, in a flash of your own insight, the man's name, his lineage, if it is "Rhone of the Spear." It was 700 years ago...
Korbinian Rhone is a soldier of Ticin legend. He lived, fought, and bled for the Ticin Empire during the height of the empire's rule over much of the western lands of Kanpur (c. 750 - 775 DR). He was a honoured soldier in the service of Emperor Cappadox II of Ravenna. The man wasn't an Imperator. His title was Warden (or Guardianus), but also he was the Warden of Castle (or Constabilarius). He was more important than any Imperator to the emperor, and he was believed to be extremely loyal to the emperor and the empire. Then... he disappeared. Knowledge of him was lost to time. It was like the man simply walked onto a battlefield one fateful day and simply faded into the mists of time. Some believed he was chosen by Easis* to ascend to godhood for his bravery while other believed he died in the Proelium Montis Liquefacti (aka Battle of the Molten Mountain) and that his body was lost in the devastation... consumed by fire and magma. His disappearance (and presumed Fate) led to religious cults being formed in his honour with the warrior cult known as Rhodanus Hastae ("The Rhone Spears") being the most notable and continuing to exist to this day (1476 BR), although it is shell of what it was in the High Ticinum era. * The Kulan name for Minerva. The man had his own family with many children (both legitimate and illegitimate) and after his disappearance, his three oldest sons fought for control of the Rhone Family. This blood feud lasted two generation until the middle son's great grandson (Athanasius Laurentius Rhodanus) finally won control of the Rhones (c. 845 BR). If his family continues to the current day, it is either now in obscurity or the lineage has changed so much to be lost to time. Reminder! The origin of the legendary diamond, Canaria Adamantino, that the PCs now possess comes from this time period as well. Vitus feels that the diamond's appearance at this time is not a coincidence. Emperor Cappadox II of Ravenna first acquired that diamond for the empire and gave it to his 12-year-old daughter, Arria. That is all that Vitus knows.
