Apparently, WOTC customer service no longer provides support for 3.5, hence I ask for your help. There have been some threads about the Kyton / Dancing Chains, but none that I've seen were completely satisfying. Particularly about the Kyton's dancing chains ability. Thus, please, who can provide a coherent set of answers to the questions below? “A chain devil’s most awesome attack is its ability to control up to four chains within 20 feet as a standard action, making the chains dance or move as it wishes.” 1. Using the “dancing chains” ability, can the Kyton (each turn) direct the chains anywhere within the 20 ft. radius and attack with them as part of the same standard action, or can he decide only to either move or attack with each of the four chains in any one round? 2. If the Kyton moves during a round, do the chains automatically move with him? If so, do they have their own movement speed? And do they still get to make an attack as part of the Kyton’s standard action to control them after having moved with the Kyton? 3. Do the dancing chains effectively float/fly, so that they can also be used for elevated attacks, or do they have to remain in contact with the ground for instance? 4. Do the dancing chains effectively give a Kyton the ability to ‘fly’ (or at least levitate), either by holding on to a chain as he mentally moves it wherever he wishes (and if so, what is the chains movement speed), and/or by stacking his dancing chains one upon the other and continue climbing them in any direction he wishes? “In addition, a chain devil can increase these chains’ length by up to 15 feet” 5. Does this mean a Kyton can extend his reach (in combat) from 10 ft. to 25 ft.? 6. Does this mean that a dancing chain can be positioned 20 ft. from the Kyton (as per ability description) and attack creatures up to 35 ft. away (because of the 15 ft. increase in length)? “These chains attack as effectively as the devil itself” 7. Do the separate chains effected by the ‘dancing chain’ ability each get the same number of attacks as the Kyton does, or only one each? 8. Do the chains thus controlled use the same strength bonus as the Kyton (so that if the Kyton’s strength score increases, the dancing chains attack and damage bonuses increase as well)? 9. Can the dancing chains perform special combat manoeuvres such as sunder, disarm, trip and grapple? If so, are the dancing chains subject to attacks of opportunity (e.g. sunder)? How about if the Kyton has the “improved trip/disarm/grapple” feats? 10. Can the dancing chains make attacks of opportunity, or can the Kyton perhaps make attacks of opportunity through it’s dancing chains? 11. Do the dancing chains have 10 ft. reach, just like the Kyton has with it’s normal chain attack? “If a chain is in another creature’s possession, the creature can attempt a DC 15 Will save to break the chain devil’s power over that chain.” 12. Does this line only applies to chains that are actually the ( ‘legal’ ) possession of a creature, or does it also applies to a creature that simply succeeds in grabbing one of the dancing chains? And in the latter case, how would this work (e.g. by a successful disarm, or grapple check)? Any help would be greatly appreciated!
