So over at Apoi we've been working on a kid friendly system aimed for a base age of around eight years old. We just launched our closed alpha testing, only letting limited numbers of testers at a time to better stay in contact with said testers, and have a more one on one feel for feed back. I'm looking specifically for parents, or anyone who gm's for kids in the 6-12 age range, to introduce the content to them and then give us feed back.
So here is a little background. KotL or Knights of the Lamb is a book we're working on, right now we're still designing the system known as the L.A.M.B. system (little adventurers mean business). Its all designed on the aesthetic that your playing a stuffed animals or "teddy bear knights" to face off against the forces of Darkness. Through out our adventurers we look to teach things like morality, bravery, compassion, and other such life lessons.
The system it's self is a 2d10 based mechanic, (for higher success rates for children) as we like our children to succeed more often, but not take failure out of the realm of possibility. All "dice checks" work around a conflict resolution mechanic, which is roll 2d10 and if the storyteller (gm) allows applicable ability score. There are only 4 scores in KotL, Brains, Brawn, Knack, and Charm. We felt this slimmed down version stayed more focused instead of having the standard 6.
There ARE weapons and armor in KotL but they are highly stylized and simplified. We want them to feel like an introduction for later more complex systems, to start getting younger players into the habit of picking out their armor and weapons during character creations.
Our bestiary is limited atm and highly stylized as well but we do provide tables in which to make your own.
If anyone is interested in testing these system (and yes there will be spelling errors and the such as this is highly alpha stage, and those are great errors to point out as well) I'd love for you to shoot us an email @powerwordgame@gmail.com and we'll send over a copy of the character sheet and storyteller copy of the game.
