I like demons too:rolleyes: Sorry - a bit of an obvious statement. As a preface, I should say that I do not have an "Absolute" cosmology which is objectively "True" from a meta-game perspective. According to Eadric's beliefs, however (the view of Oronthonian Orthodoxy), Oronthon - the One True Godhead - is an indivisible unity, responsible for the creation of the world and subsequently an active guide and participant - usually through the medium of celestials - in earthly affairs. Prior to the fabrication of the world, a revolt (along Miltonic lines) occurred in heaven, led by an Adversary and involving millions of other "angelic" beings. It was supressed, and the perpetrators were expelled. They plummeted to Hell, where another hierarchy was established in mockery of and opposition to the celestial order. But many of those amongst the former celestial host who had risen in arms against Oronthon had done so because of desire for more self-determination, and had hoped to create a kind of idyllic "celestial anarchism." Obviously, they objected to the institution of the new order in Hell, and fled from who they regarded as yet another despot. They escaped in droves to other regions - most notably the Abyss. Here they found room to implement their utopian ideals but, burdened with Taint, soon fell into madness and evil. In game terms, these creatures are represented by the Tanar'ri. It is worth noting at this point that, as in Milton's cosmology, Demogorgon is NOT one of the fallen. He/it predates the existing order, and his place is uncertain in the Oronthonian schema. His name is utterly taboo, and never mentioned. At this point, I should state again: THIS IS ONE VIEW. There is one Heretical branch of Oronthonians who view the Adversary as a kind of Messiah: they believe that his rebellion was encouraged by Oronthon in order to create a dialectic in the consciousness of men. There is another Heterodox group who believe that there is a Divine feminine aspect of Oronthon, immanent in the world. Another quasi-Gnostic group believe that Oronthon is the creator, but also a kind of demiurge who is not the ultimate deity. They perceive him as flawed. My own view is similar to Nwm's: "All metaphysical speculation is futile. Looking for God? Check out that tree, man."
