I have not subscribed to DDI yet (still deciding), but this dismays me.

So, what brick-and-mortar prescence does WotC have in CA that makes us have to pay tax? They closed all their retail shops years ago.

Or is it based on Hasbro? For some reason Hasbro (based in Rhode Island) charges tax when I purchase from them on hasbrotoyshop.com . Not sure why Hasbro has a CA connection, but it could be the same reason WotC does.

Apparently it's Digital River the company that does their online store stuff. They have their offices in CA MN and WA... So we get stuck payin the sales tax upfront.

For Hasbro I'm guessing they have a warehouse in CA that they ship from.

Digital River who now? That is lame.

The stuff I get from Hasbro comes shipped from Pennsylvania, FWIW.

Amazon gets around sales tax by having their western distribution hub in Nevada, a sale-tax-free state.

Bummer. Can't you guys get the Govinator to like.. bash some skulls and fix that?

I remember a month or so ago they tried to make us pay online tax here in NYS but we put our foot down... or just don't. Whichever. I forget the reason from what I recall it was some loop hole.

Well technically you have to pay tax on stuff you buy online... you just have to report it on your tax return... You all do that RIGHT???? ;)

But if the company does business in the state you're having the thing you buy shipped to, you have to pay it up front.

It'll end up bein like 4 extra bux on a 12 month subscription. Bah. Oh well. I've calmed down now.
