Since I was new to this group, I just created a 13th level thief with a magical item of shapechanging among other things.So, we investigate some deaths, which lead us to a castle. I decide to scout the place, so I shapechange into a bird, fly over the castle, and lands on top of a tower to get a look.Just that, and the DM tells me: "You are dead!". As I was arguing about the idiocy of that death (no combat, no save, no roll of any sort), the bad DM finally declares that the vampire assassin well knows that no animal would ever come near his castle, so that (during the day of course) when one does, he uses his mirror of mental prowes to go though it, assassinate the intruder, then goes back (to his coffin I guess).This DM probably never realized that a DM's purpose should be to have players have a good time playing, not killing PCs with lame explanations.</blockquote>
