Pretty much exactly what the subject says. My players are slowly starting to make their way toward this area or my campaign world. I have some of the general information but would like some more specifics regarding some real-world cultural stuff and some naming sources.

Preferably, if someone is using ancient & medieval India as a campaign inspiration and could direct me to their site. . .

Okay, I just did a quick google search and think I understand what you're saying.

Does anybody else have any ideas? I would imagine that someone is using India as a backdrop. . .

I'm slowly but surely developing an area of my campaign world based on India, but since my players are nowhere near it at this point, I haven't gotten anything down besides "I need an area based on India."

Try searching for the Mystara atlas on-line (sorry, no time to look it up right now). I believe there is a map of and info on Sind, which is an OD&D country directly modeled on India. It has India-style names such as Jaibul and Prayanama.

I don't know how much help this is going to be but... have you checked out James Wyatt's Mahasarpa campaign setting for Oriental Adventures? I think he has a bunch of stuff about it on his site: http://www.aquela.com/roleplaying/index.html and it was detailed, to a degree, in the OA web enhancement, available at the WotC site.

I second this excellent suggestion (hey NiT :D)

Go here to find the Mahasarpa web enhancement. It's one of the best free downloads out there and I think it's also exactly what you're looking for. If you want to see the setting in action, take a look at Yellow Sign's Lotus and the Cobra PbP game in my sig.

Good luck!
