I'm new to this forum. Apologies in advance if this topic has been done to death. Feel free to link me to relevant past threads. With that out of the way... I like the mechanics of Leadership in 3E, but I don't like having to burn a feat to get cohorts/followers - largely because none of my players seem to be pulling the trigger on it. I'm therefore considering adding a Leadership skill to the 3E campaign I'm running. It would be trained only, and a class skill for all PC classes. It would work just like the feat, except the Leadership score is ranks in Leadership plus Cha modifier. If you also take the Leadership feat, you add your character level as well (a substantial perk for taking the feat). The Leadership score modifiers from the DMG still apply. All my players are over 6th level, but I'd probably still write in the "can't attract until 6th level" prereq, i.e., you could take ranks in the skill, but couldn't use them until 6th. Without the feat, the cohort's level is limited to the leader's ranks in the skill. With the feat, it's the greater of ranks and character level. Thoughts? I'd prefer to not just be shown alternate systems, unless you also tell my WHY they're better than mine. ;)
