Leadership questions

I have a couple questions about the Leadership feat:
1) Should the cohort have wealth as per a PC, or as an NPC?
2) Should taking the Item Familiar feat give you a -2 to your leadership score, as though the PC "Has a familiar, special mount, or animal companion"?

Unless the cohort is actually a PC then NPC gear
I'd consider the item familar to be a familar but I can see it either way

1. It does not matter whether the cohort is played as a PC or NPC, the cohort is equipped as an NPC per the DMG pg. 106: "The cohort has gear as an NPC (see Table 4-23: NPC Gear Value, page 127)."
