Leadership

I seem to remember, a long time ago, PirateCat making a comment that Leadership could be taken multiple times for more cohorts/followers, but it's just not really popular. I remember that the word "can" was capitalized, however, it may very well have been "CAN'T" Big Difference, no? :D

So, I know that in the "special" section of a feat it must say for it to be able to be taken multiple times, but then again Leadership is pretty much as specialed out as you can get. ;) Could leadership be taken multiple times? Do you get more cohorts and followers, just followers, just cohorts? If it doesn't, by the rules, would it be game breaking if it could?

I ask because I've got a new wizard character in the works who is being designed with NO combat capability. I'm actually working on feats to lower DCs to gain other bonuses. My intent/goal is to carve out my own little wizard's tower with a village made up of my followers under my benevolent leadership, using my resources through my cohorts and followers to get most of my power (in combat and out). I realize D&D isn't a civilization building game, so this is tough to do, but I think dumping feats into Leadership would be helpful.

(End goal, Wizard/Loremaster with his own small kingdom in a demiplane that he created)

Thanks!

As I remember, taking the Leadership feat again will give you another cohort, but no more followers. I'll check the FAQ, that's where I remember seeing something like this.

By the rules as written, you can't take Leadership more than once. I allow characters to take it multiple times, choosing either additional followers or an additional cohort.

Just take leadership once as allowed. And then get some of your favored minions to take leadership too. And so on. Pyramid schemes - gotta love 'em :)

*nod* And that (followers with leadership) is actually suggested as a method to recreate "multi-tiered organizations" right in the book.

Can you give me a reference? I remember Monte explicitly saying that you could, although that was in 3e. I can't find the 3.5 rule you're referring to.

I would say that you could not take the leadership feat more than once as it is written. I say this for the following reason: you take leadership three times with a maxed out score and you can get three cohorts at your level -2 each. This means that your cohorts as a group are more powerful than you. Your EL is your character level, thier EL is ~ your level +1. This could get broken....

I would allow taking leadership multiple times by applying the -2 mount/familiar/animal companion modifier for each iteration past the first. Should balance nicely.

Taking Leadership multiple times is a common house rule, but since the feat description doesn't mention the ability to do so, it's definitely a HOUSE rule.

However, I don't think it's all that problematic- if you want a ton of npcs to deal with.

I thought I remembered Monte saying he didn't see a balance problem with allowing it.

But notice there's a footnote on the Feats table to denote "This feat may be taken more than once". ... and Leadership doesn't have it.

Of course, the guy that I described, and anyone else who's doing the leadership maxing out thing that's worth their salt, would have a very high charisma. Once you get to sufficiently high level where you're going to have 3 cohorts your leadership will be so high the -2 won't matter. (Due to high charisma, I realize the level portion of the leadership score scales)
