An excellent addition to any campaign So who doesn't like infernals? If you like playing Dungeons and Dragons characters with a darker edge, everyone wants to play a tiefling, or even a half-fiend. If you're strictly in the "holy and pure" zone, eventually you are going to want to hunt down those most odious of creatures, the demons and devils. Enter Legacy of Damnation, the latest book for the Arcanis campaign setting. Arcanis has set a new standard for complex fantasy worlds which contain both epic adventures and twisted political and moral decisions. Legacy of Damnation is no exception. It begins with a fictional tale of a man, tainted by infernal blood, desperately attempting to seek out his ancestors. With that personal touch, the book jumps in to exploring the concepts and psyches behind demons, devils, efreeti, night hags, half-fiends, tieflings, and a new race, the Dark-Kin. The first chapter is all about storytelling and drama. What forces shape the lives of those tainted, the pull of the taint, those who attempt to deny their taint and those who attempt to strengthen it, and how and why tainted characters join the various character classes. For those who enjoy Arcanis, this chapter also includes an overview of the tainted across the continent of Onara. Next is a chapter outlining the Sealed Lands. While originally designed as part of the Arcanis campaign setting, the Sealed Lands can easily be added to any campaign. It represents a world where once, long ago, there was a massive invasion of demons and devils. While this is a common theme in epic fantasy, the Sealed Lands carry an interesting twist. The infernals won. Since that time the devil-kings have set up vast kingdoms for themselves, while the humans and other races live as their slaves, or else huddled together in desperate bands of resistance against the Infernal might. The Sealed Lands is a perfect place to introduce to high level characters, giving them a land overrun with infernals to liberate. Alternately, an entire campaign could take place in the sealed lands, giving the campaign a desperate "struggle-to-survive," or even horror feel. From Vengeance, domain of the vile Uhxbractit, Prince of Devils, to Pleasance, the city of Succubi, to Bastion, where the last stronghold of man lies protected by the fallen Valinor Xabal against the demonic threat, the Sealed Lands is a detailed and fascinating world to explore. The third part of this sourcebook contains crunch material. Here is included new rules for infernal creatures, for those DMs wishing to create truly horrific bad guys, as well as statistics on the Dark-Kin, a race of player characters tainted by the demons. Dark-Kin are an excellent addition to any campaign, as it allows players to play a tainted character without the unbalancing powers of a tiefling or half-fiend (that's right, no EL advancement for Dark-Kin). Also included is the val'Vasik, a family infused with celestial power from the fallen Valinor Xabal. Legacy of Damnation includes many new character options, including "Tainted" feats, or feats that draw upon infernal taint within a PC, and "Blood" feats, which give powers based on a character's magical blood. Also included are four base classes, three which allow a tainted character to unlock his infernal heritage and one for the tainted character who decides to devote his life to hunting his infernal progenitors instead. For those who are unfamiliar with Arcanis, Legacy of Damnation provides story ideas, rules, and an entire new continent which can be added to any existing campaign setting. For those wishing to create complex heroes driven by their own tainted soul, or those who wish adversaries all the more evil and powerful, this is the perfect sourcebook for you.
