D&D 5E (2024) Legacy of Netheril Act 2 Advice.

Zardnaar

Legend
So my PCs hit "act 2" for the campaign. They have around a month of downtime while bastions are being constructed.

Act 1 was clearing the Stonelands acaepting a charter from Cormyr and Queen Raedra (via courtier) to do it.

Act Two is southern Anauroch Act 3 will be dealing with the shades in the Neo Shade enclave. Recycling a lot of material from 3E since that edition was very good on FR lore/fluff and I own the material.

Basic idea. Sandbox with various sidequests. They can do them in any order. I plan on statting the encounters out at 6th with upgrades for lvl 7 and 8. RAW encounter guidelines in the DMG for the most part.

Source Material Used

Netheril Arcane Age set (2E)
Anauroch (2e)
Faiths and Avatars (2E, Amaunator, Karsus)
Powers and Pantheons (2E Jergal)
Lords of Darkness (3E)
3E FRCS
Anauroch Empire of Shade (3.5)
Netheril Fall of 5.5.
Serpent Kingdoms (3.5)
Candlekeep Mysteries (5.0)
Adventures in Faerun (5.5)

The setup. Various factions have asked them to investigate several sites. I've worked in 3 PC backgrounds/stories into it. The other 2 didn't care to much.

Ruins of Jergals temple (Amazandar)
Orofin (apparently still intact post fall)
Oreme (Serpent Kingdoms, Anauroch Empire shade)

Jergals temple is is going to be the Crypt of Agathra the Mad from Empire of Shade, Orofin is going to be an independent city state the Republic of Netheril, Oreme will use a map from Empire of Shade. The fallen Kingdons of Asram and Anauria will be prominent.

On the war to Amazander/Orofin I'm going to use Ancient Netherese Outpost from Lords of Darkness and maps from Adventures of Faerun as "random" encounters. Anauria will be Jergals temple under Amazandar, Azumar from Candlekeep Mysteries and Anauril the City of Swords will get used as a Shade outpost with Sword Wights (probably wights from 5.5 MM tweaked.

Orofin is will be used as the remains of Asram. Maybe some plague left over from its destruction at least under it. Ruins can have Phaerimm hives and the Magen are "Shadow Magen"

The Shades have the Shadow Engine from Empire of Shade its a small mythallar infused with shadow weave. They've been using it to create an army of magen and disrupt the weave creating shadow storms. Areas of darkness, wild and dead magic (shadow weave works however).

That's my current thinking. Any ideas for the shades (Mage refluffed as a shadow mage, tweak spells). Not many Shadovar around even less shades. Thinking of applying a magen template to existing NPCs (warriors, mages, performers etc).

Basically after some ideas if you're happy sharing. Some material here is from previous threads suggestions. Could be shade or Netheril related, storylines, encounters etc.
