The 'rescued form bullying' scenario might work too: it IS a classic <img src="https://cdn.jsdelivr.net/joypixels/assets/8.0/png/unicode/64/1f600.png" class="smilie smilie--emoji" loading="lazy" width="64" height="64" alt=":D" title="Big grin    :D"  data-smilie="8"data-shortname=":D" />) and odd jobs to earn a hero's "proper equipment" AND help people out at the same time. I'd see him as always trying to drag Antares into "helping", an influence the elf's parent would approve of as at least productive of *something*... What do you think?
