Wormy was trying to hibernate, dreaming sweet dreams of his wriggling youth, but he kept being awakened by some kind of "STAR WARS" stacked on top of the whole Christmas season. Seeing all the excitement made Wormy wonder...

What is your favorite childhood nostalgia moment in the RPG realm?

Many people might hearken back to a long time ago in a galaxy far, far away (or at least to 1977), and as gamers sometimes those happy early memories of the hobby were connected to movies, books, etc., or they might just be all about the game whether it was discovering something under the Christmas tree or around a friend's kitchen table.

Share your favorite, and revel in a lingering bit of joy you can carry with you all your days! Viva la fantasy!

Oh man, plenty…

- Going with my dad to get the Red Box. It would've been from either Waldenbooks or KB Toys, but I distinctly remember walking through Montgomery Ward first.

- Sitting around outside, on the grass, playing BECMI D&D on nice spring and summer days.

- At school, after classes, with some new players for the first session of our elementary school D&D club. This was back when 2e was still in the process of being rolled out, so we were playing with a mix of 1e and 2e. The one player would become a good friend (and based on later research, turn out to be a distant relative).

– My first convention experience, at Pentacon at Cornell. We were just past being kids, but not yet teenagers. And yet the college kids running the game and playing it were so cool with us, treating us like equals rather than pesky meddling kids. It was a simple set-up of us trying to take the enemy’s castle (I think they were just running it for the free admission), but it was still a blast.

Man, I remember playing outside in the summer too. Strangely, my strongest memory about playing outside was actually the Ghostbuster RPG, even though we only played it a couple of times, that and the little adventure game that came inside the AD&D Coloring Book!

I remember in middle school running Lost Caverns of Tsojcanth in the lunchroom in the morning before school. We only had about a half-hour tops, but we would grind through a room or two each day.
