Legends of YB: Lady Tsin's Story. Farewell...

Lady Tsin

First Post
ooc: So many threads have gone, and so much has taken place while I was away, that I have decided to complete this in one thread. I hope you enjoy the story.

If any of the participants described below wish to respond and I have already moved on, please email me and I will edit my posts to add in your words.

Note that I am backing up a bit because I believe that several people missed my posts in their Dojo threads on the old boards (had to rewrite them, since I those boards are still unavailable!!)

First, a bit of a background, so newbies will sort of know what this is all about:

Once upon a time there was a Land of Battle, where warriors of Honor and Light fought black-hearted Villains and strove to reach perfect wisdom through strength and skill. One such warrior was a young woman named Lady Tsin, who rose to become the highest ranked of all Honored warriors. She was known as the White Lady, and the White Spider, for her supreme mastery of that style. She was the first Grandmistress of all Dojos, and her wisdom, kindness, and strength were renowned throughout the land. During her time as leader of the Honored Path, evil and villainy were all but wiped out of the land, and peace reigned.

This Lady was a devoted teacher, and strove at all times to guide young warriors in the ways of Honor. She took as her special charge the untried warriors, the White belts, and wither her consort and lover the Great Nikodemus she worked for the protection of all. Indeed, the very Heavens recognized her goodness, and during the time of Relics they chose her to bear the Gem of Heaven?s Honor. The white gem, embedded in the living flesh of the Lady?s forehead, had the power to remove dishonor and disgrace from the record of any warrior.

During the final days of the time of Peace, Lady Tsin began to have disturbing dreams. She was called by the most Ancient of Ancient Masters, told that her time to depart the land was drawing near. Although it pained her heart, she knew the Wisdom of the Ancient ones could not be gainsaid, and so she prepared. Her dreams whispered to her how it would be done, and she was pleased that something of her love for this land would remain once she was gone. She began to craft small items in secret.

The Grandmistress of Dojos also held a grand Tournament of Honor, in order to bestow her few items of power upon those most worthy of them. The Most Ancient Ones took a hand in this as well, and for three days the noble warriors of the land strove against each other for the glory of Honor. At the last, Jackal of the Thunder and MidKnight of the Steele Dagger were named the winners, and MidKnight became a new Dojo Grandmaster and was named "the One" by the Most Ancient Ancestors before they departed the tournament grounds.

Once the Tournament was over, Lady Tsin set out into the land with a satchel of leather. It contained the small ceramic figures she had been crafting, and she began to give them as gifts to all the warriors of goodness and all the White belts in the land. She gave them another gift as well, though it took time for them to notice it...she gave away pieces of her soul...

ooc: The following took place at the Dojo of the Dragon of the West Wind, days before the events which are now described in that thread. Lady Tsin had already given away a few of her gifts, but she chose this place at this time for a reason...

I apologize for the fact that the first version of this, on the old boards, is much better...note that when Tsin arrives here, she is ranked Brown Belt D4

Lady Tsin smiles at Vanor and Lady Diamond as she sits drinking tea with them. "I see you have much to discuss, but there is something I would like to give you both. I wanted to do this here because, well..." she hesitates. "Well, we shall see." Placing her teacup carefully upon a side table, Tsin reaches into her satchel and draws out a small white object. She turns it in her fingers for a moment, and her amethyst eyes seem somewhat sad. She takes a slow, deep breath, then raises the object to her lips and breathes upon it.

Her face suddenly twists with pain, and she shakes in her chair, clutching at her chest. But before Vanor or Lady Diamond can react, she sits up and smiles shakily at them. "That wasn?t so bad, I think." She hand the small object to Vanor, who takes it reflexively, then reaches for her tea with a shaking hand.

The white object is a small ceramic Dragon, inscribed with a tiny "T." It is called a Token of the Lady, and has the following power: Once, and only once, it will grant an expert of the Dragon style the power to alter one of his/her generated moves to the Dragon style. After this ability is used, it will crumble to dust.

Far away, at the Gardens of the Grandmistress, Yang places a tall ladder against the arch of the front gate. He climbs it slowly, as an old man should, and just as slowly he begins to gather the proud banners that fly above it.

Afterward, he folds each one carefully and entrusts it to a young messenger boy or girl. "Take this to the Dojo it belongs to, and tell them there that the Grandmistress sets them free." The messengers run, clutching their bundles and wondering what this means.

At the Dojo of the Dragon of the West Wind, Lady Tsin closes her eyes and sips her tea, then puts it down again. She reaches into her pouch again and draws out another object; this time she does not hesitate, but breathes deeply upon it. She shudders, and winces, but still passes the object to Lady Diamond with an almost-steady hand.

Then she rises. "And now I must go. Thank you both for your hospitality, and for..." Her gaze touches Vanor, her old friend, and she smiles. "For everything. May the Ancestors bless your path." With a final bow, and a brief hug for Vanor, she departs.

Outside of the Dragon of the West Wind Dojo, the warrior Thaiger stands puzzled. a young girl has just left a banner in his hands: the Dojo standard, which is supposed to be flying above the gates at the Gardens of the Grandmistress. The child offered little explanation...ahh, but here comes the White Spider herself, and surely she will make things clear.

"Greetings, Grandmistress, I--"

But Lady Tsin shakes her head. "No longer, brave Thaiger. But before I go, I have something for you." She reaches into a leather pouch at her side and draws out something small, then she brings it to her lips and blows softly upon it. She shudders and closes her eyes, but only for a moment. Then she presses the object into his hand. "Be well, Thaiger." The White Lady bows to him, and turns, and walks away from the Dojo.

Lady Tsin stops by the Palace-Dojo of the Falcon/Chopsticks and rings the bell. A servant comes running, and she smiles and bows. "I have something for your master, Archangel; will you please deliver it to him?" She reaches into a pouch at her side and draws out a small white object. She brings it to her lips, hesitates for a moment, then breathes upon it.

Lady Tsin's face clenches in what must be pain, and the servant moves to help her, but already she is smiling faintly and waves him off. "No, I am fine. Give this to your master, please, and be careful with it." She hands him the object, then turns and walks away.

The White Lady walks the Land until, late one afternoon, she comes upon the warrior Jackal. She smiles at him and bows. He notices that she looks pale, and somehow...diminished. But her eyes are still firm and her light voice is strong.

"Greetings, Master of the Storm. You look well...I am glad to see you again. I was pleased with your performance in the Tournament, and your Honor shines in your eyes." The Lady reaches into a leather satchel she carried over one shoulder, and pulls out something small and white. With a faint smile, she brings it to her lips and breathes upon it.

Suddenly her face twists with pain, and Jackal catches her arm to keep her from stumbling. But just as quickly she is smiling at him again, and she presses the small object into his hand. "A gift, for you to remember me by. Take care, Jackal, and may the Ancestors bless your path." With another bow, the Lady turns and walks away.
