Leprechaun Lore

BOZ

Creature Cataloguer
Leprechauns first appeared in D&D in the old school Monster Manual, then later in Monstrous Compendium #2 and the Monster Manual.

They were also featured prominently in a couple of articles in Dragon #158 and #239.

Their deity, Squelaiche, appeared in Monster Mythology.

Where else might one find info on the D&D leprechaun? :)

There was a fey supplement for AD&D, wasn't there? Can't remember what that was called, but it did have something on Leprechauns, I think.

There was one for OD&D, but I didn't have it, so I couldn't say whether it had leprechauns, although that certainly would fit into the sometimes tongue-in-cheek tone of Mystara.

Ah, was that it? For OD&D though - are you sure? As in, Diaglo's fetish. . . that game? You don't mean BECMI (or whatever), do you?

Anyway, I know I've seen the supplement, and even read bits of it. But yeah, it could've been for pre-AD&D D&D. Couldn't find it on the supposedly comprehensive list of TSR products, courtesy of Google. But then, I didn't know what (name) I was looking for.

I mean the latter. It was refered to as OD&D the entire time I was active on the Mystara mailing list.

It was something like the Wee Folk. It was one of the Creature Crucible "modules" (actually a sourcebook like Top Ballista).

Surprised this creature hasn't been updated to 3E yet. It's a must have fey! :D

Heck, the 3E Forgotten Realms Campaign book even made a statement of existence of leprechauns (I believe it was under the heading for the Border Forest).

In my experience, if a DM puts a leprechaun in the game it can cast any spell at will (sometimes even quickened), along with other supernatural ability of "DM fiat" at will. They are impossible to hit, and no magic will affect them. They exist to annoy the players and nothing you can do can stop them short of quitting the game.
