Lesser Planar Binding and Charisma checks

In the description for LPB, its says the creature can make a charisma check to escape, (DC 15+ 1/2 its level + its charisma mod).

So let me get this straight, the more powerful the creature, the harder it is to escape? Tell me theres a typo in there.

The SRD says DC 15 + 1/2 caster's level + caster's Cha mod.

"Make a Charisma check vs DC X + your own Cha mod" isn't a Charisma check. It's "roll a d20".
