Both worlds definitely are trying for their own unique vibes, but Dragonlance's concept makes it easier to slot in more "classic" fantasy elements. Part of my motivation for these dragon-centric sourcebook reviews is a fondness for Silvara from the original Chronicles and modules, and her very important role in helping the PCs turn around the War of the Lance via finding the Dragonlances and the fate of the good dragon eggs. I used my own houserules for DMPCs when I ran the Chronicles in 13th Age, but I realize if I were to do so again in a more traditional system like 5e or Pathfinder, I'd need to find more balanced rules for having a true dragon companion. The default modules either make her stand aside for most combats or she ends up falling into the Overpowered DMPC trope that is the bane of many campaigns.</blockquote>
