Well now that we have the creature catalog we can look instead at the Dark Sun beasties that didn't make the cut and play around with them. One thing I remember from 2E Dark Sun that might be fun is the Silt Vortex. Note that this is an extremely rough draft of the beast for 4E and needs some definate refinement. Silt Vortex Level 13 Solo Brute Huge Aberrant Beast(blind) XP 4000 HP: 640 Bloodied: 320 AC: 25 Fortitude: 27 Reflex: 23 Will: 25 Speed 2, Burrow 2(Loose Earth Only), Fly 2(Hover) Blind, Tremorsense 20 Immune: Blind, Gaze. Saving Throw: +5 Action Points: 2 Traits: Flat Body: Creatures can enter and end their move in the Silt Vortex's space. When the Silt Vortex moves, creatures in it's squares move with it. Swirling Vortex*Aura 10: Creatures that start their turn within the aura are pulled 3 squares towards the center square on the Silt Vortex. Concealing Silt: The Silt Vortex has concealment from any creature that is not adjacent to it or in a square within it's space. Unnatural Physiology: The Silt Vortex is immune to the daze condition and any condition that would stun it dazes it for the same duration instead. Standard Actions: :bmelee:: Flailing Body*At Will: Melee 1(One Creature): +18 versus AC. Hit: 5d6+6 damage and the target falls prone. :branged:: Sucking Silt*At Will: Ranged 20(One Creature: +16 versus Reflex. Hit: 4d6+6 damage and the target is pulled 4 squares. :ranged:: All Consuming Hunger*At Will: The Silt Vortex either using Sucking Silt three times or Sucking Silt two times and Flailing Body once. Each attack must target a different creature. Minor Actions: :close:: Hungering Vortex*At Will(Once/Rd): Close Burst 10(Creatures in the burst): +16 versus Reflex. Hit: 2d6+6 damage and the target is pulled 1 square. :close:: Swirling Silt*Recharge :5: :6:: Close Burst 5(Creatures in the burst): +16 versus Fortitude. Hit: 3d6+6 damage and the target is blind(save ends). Triggered Actions: :melee::Hungering Maw*At Will(Free Action) Trigger: A creature starts it's turn in the center square of the Silt Vortex. +18 versus AC: 6d6+6 damage. The Silt Vortex can achieve a critical on a roll of 19-20. :melee:: Savage Blow*At Will(Free Action) Trigger: A creature makes an opportunity attack against the Silt Vortex. +18 versus AC: 4d6+6 damage. The target is pushed 2 squares and falls prone. Str. 20(+11) Con. 20(+11) Dex. 10(+6) Int. 1(+1) Wis. 16(+9) Cha. 14(+8) Alignment: Unaligned. Languages: - Skills: Stealth +15 Tactics: There's nothing fancy about how the Silt Vortex fights. Something comes in range of it's tremorsense and it starts sucking. It might give creatures an opportunity to come even closer before it reveals itself but that's about the limit of it's trickiness. It uses All Consuming Hunger each turn, Swirling Vortex the moment something is within 10 squares, and will usually use it's move action to use Swirling Silt the moment something is withing five squares even if it's not ideal. It tries to drag something into it's maw so it can begin chewing on it. It has no special way to prevent creatures from using opportunity attacks against it's Sucking Silt but it will punish them for doing so with Savage Blow. I thought about it as a lurker rather than brute but once the sucking begins it really isn't very lurkerish. It's only sneaky in that it sits patiently. It's actual fighting style is all about smacking things in as many ways as possible. All the pulling could make it a controller or soldier as well but really it's using these effects to counter it's extremely slow speed. It's more like it uses forced movement as it's own movement.
